Spent the morning at Valpoi, a place not often visited, then the afternoon at the Biera Mar.

Red Spurfowl, Brown-cheeked Fulvetta, Greater Flameback, Malabar Grey Hornbill, Lotan's Sunbird, Asian Fairy Bluebird, European Roller and Taiga Flycatcher at Valpoi.

Cinnamon Bittern (amazingly showing in the mid-afternoon sun), Indian Swiftlet and Barn Owl at the Biera Mar.

Also 100+ Fruit Bats near Mapusa.

March 8th 2008. India.

Not much birding done today - only bird of note was a Barred Button Quail in Arpora Forest.

March 7th 2008. India.

Morning spent on the Zuari River trip.

11 Collared Kingfisher, 2 Spoonbill, 9 woolly-necked Stork, 8 Ruddy Shelduck, 1 Osprey, 2 Pied Kingfisher, 1 Lesser Adjutant, 2 Stork-billed Kingfisher and 3 Crocodile. Also had half-decent views of a Pitta that looked more like Mangrove than Indian - uniform brownish crown, much blue in wing and long billed.

March 6th 2008. India.

Early evening at Morjim, birding around the scrub rather than the beach area.

1 Bay-backed Shrike, 400+ Baya Weaver going to roost and 3 Brahimy Starlings.

March 5th 2008. India.

Back in Goa - spent the late afternoon and early evening on Diva Island.

Highlights - 1 Oriental Pratincole, 1 1st winter Pied Harrier, 1 male Pallid Harrier, 70+ Glossy Ibis, 1 Black-shouldered Kite and a Lesser Spotted Eagle.

March 4th 2008. India - near death !!

Left Kumaria at midnight, arriving at Delhi airport at 7.30am for 11am flight to Goa. Several near death experiences on the way - due to taxi driver falling asleep !!!

March 3rd 2008. India.

All day around Kumeria, around the farmland to the east of the hotel.

Highlights - Grey Treepie, Verditer Flycatcher, Pied Kingfisher, Grey-winged Blackbird, Great Hornbill (2), Crow-billed Drongo, Greater Yellownape, Spangled Drongo, Great Barbet, Rufous-fronted Prinia, Crested Kingfisher, White-tailed Rubythroat, Crimson Sunbird, Orange-bellied Leafbird and Black Francolin.

March 2nd 2008. India.

All day around Kumeria, mainly in the forest to the west of the hotel.

Highlights - Spotted Forktail, Oriental Turtle Dove, Grey Treepie, Maroon Oriole, Crested Serpent Eagle (inc 1 catching frogs in a roadside stream), Chestnut-bellied Rock Thrush, Lesser Yellownape, Streak-throated Woodpecker, Slaty-blue Flycatcher, Rufous-gorgeted Flycatcher, Asian Barred Owlet, Black-throated Sunbird, Green-tailed Sunbird, Fulvous-breasted Woodpecker, Rufous-bellied Niltava, Brown-capped Pygmy Woodpecker, White-tailed Rubythroat, Long-billed Thrush (along stream by Camp Forktail) and Speckled Piculet.

March 1st 2008. India.

Birded the Kosi river from Ramnagar back to Kumaria.

Highlights - Rosy Pipit (2), Black-throated Thrush, Plain Martin, Citrine Wagtail, Asian Pied Starling, Slaty Blue Flycatcher, Sand Lark, Streak-throated Woodpecker, Pale Martin, Ruddy Shelduck (117), Pied Kingfisher, Chestnut-headed Tesia, Golden Bush Robin, Amur Wagtail, River Lapwing and Black Eagle.

February 29th 2008. India.

All day around Kumaria - Grey Treepie, Tawny Fish Owl (same place as yesterday), Rufous Woodpecker, Brown-capped Pygmy Woodpecker, Aberrant Bush Warbler, Crimson Sunbird, White-crowned Laughing Thrush, Crow-billed Drongo, Pied Kingfisher, Hobby and Wallreeper (2).

February 28th 2008. India.

Full day at Kumaria, mainly around the Kosi River to the north of the hotel.

Highlights - White-crowned Laughingthrush, Spangled Drongo, Oriental Pied Hornbill, Orange-bellied Leafbird (2 feeding on Bottlebrush tree at hotel), White-naped Tit, Common Merganser (32), Brown Dipper, Crested Kingfisher, Rufous-gorgeted Flycatcher, Yellow-bellied Fantail, Rufous-bellied Niltava, Pale Blue Flycatcher, Tawny Fish Owl and Wallcreeper.
