HB's

The patch has been quiet all day - no overnight rain, the only highlight being about 350 Honey Buzzards coming in off the sea.

Raptor Fest

Went up to the Batumi Raptor Count watch point, in glorious sunshine, and was far from disappointed ! During the 4 hours that I was there had 20,000+ Honey Buzzards, 35 Black Kites, a Levant Sparrowhawk, a Short-toed Eagle, 2 Booted Eagles, a Montagu's Harrier, a White Stork and about 300 Bee-eaters.
The daily total from the BRC count can be seen - here http://www.batumiraptorcount.org/projects/raptor-count/latest-count

Honey Buzzard.

At last got out and did some birding after the fog had cleared, went over the runway to Rob's to try for a singing Bluethroat, but with nearby workman making more noise than Cradle of Filth, not too surprised not to see it. Waited around there for a while, when loads of Gulls, Starlings and Oystercatchers started making a din over Toab, as I looked over that way all the birds were in a huge spiral mobbing a Buzzard sp ! As the bird started drifting towards me, got better views - Honey Buzzard ! Phoned Rob up (who was at work) but his phone was engaged, the bird then drifted south (straight above Rob's garden !) towards Sumburgh head and into a bank of fog.
