Easterly winds all night - at last a migrant - Greenfinch in the Garden !!

South-easterly.

All day around South Mainland - no migrants what so ever, even in a South-easterly with drizzle.

3 Whooper Swans, 18 Wigeon, 11 Tufted Duck, 5 Goldeneye, 2 Moorhen, 2 Shelduck and the Mallard x Pintail Hybrid at Scatness.

3 Common Scoters, 2 Shelduck, 4 Great Northern Divers and a Grey Heron off Scord.

Some Migrants.

2 Pied Wagtails and a Meadow Pipit over the House + Waxwing flew north towards Toab in the morning. 2 Redwing in the Garden.

Glaucs.

The 1st yr Glaucous Gull again around the House, sitting on the roof waiting to be fed ! Another 1st yr Bird at Sumburgh Head + 20 Twite around the Lighthouse and a Great Black-backed Gull feeding on a dead Sheep in the sea. Ad Peregrine and Whooper Swan past the House in the morning + 8 Great Northern Divers in the Bay.

Garden Birds.

By putting a few pieces of stale bread on the lawn I was expecting the usual Starlings and House Sparrows, what turned up to dine instead was a 1st yr Glaucous Gull, 10 Herring Gulls, 2 Raven and 4 Hooded Crows !!

Snow Buntings.

Spent all day around South Mainland, hoping for some signs of Spring - apart from the odd Skylark singing. 2w Glaucous Gull in front of the House again, 2 Snow Bunting at Garth's Ness, Slavonian Grebe, Long-tailed Duck and 3 Red-throated Divers on Spiggie and hundreds of Fulmars on the cliffs around Fitful Head.

The Shetland Catch.

Most of the day spent at The Shetland Catch - 9 Iceland Gulls (8 1w, 1 2w), 3 Glaucous Gulls (1 ad, 2 1w) + a few Eider and Long-tailed Ducks quite close in. Also 2 Glaucous Gulls (1w +2w) in front of the House in the morning and Pied Wagtail at Rova Head.
