Darjeeling

Having arrived in Darjeeling after dark last night (after 38 hours of constant travel), up and about around the town this morning. A quick look at a map and the Zoo road looked pretty descent (the nature trail in the zoo is now closed – so no need to pay the 100 rupees to walk through a zoo straight out of the 1950's!), along the road Rufous Sibias were everywhere with over 50 in one group. One of the small patches of scrub by the road held 2 Grey-hooded Warblers, 8 Black-throated Tits and a single Chestnut-capped Laughingthrush. In the bits of woodland that were visible from the road there were 2 Red-billed Leiotherix, umpteen Green-backed Tits, a Common Buzzard and an Oriental Turtle Dove. After this I spent the rest of the day dealing with Indian bureaucracy – by spending 3 hours getting my permit for Sikkim.
