Pegger

Just sat at home having a lazy Sunday afternoon, when this Peregrine whacks a Lapwing out of the sky right outside the living room window.

Matter of Time.

More improvement on the patch, it's just a matter of time before something big turns up ! The usual stuff was still knocking around, with 5 Goldcrests, 2 Blackcaps, a Garden Warbler, 2 Siskin, 21 Song Thrushes, a Lesser Whitethroat, 3 Robins, 19 Lapland Buntings, 5 Wheatears (including the reappearance of the albino), a Whinchat and a Black Redstart. New birds were 10 Barnacle Geese,2 Linnets, 2 Grey Heron, a Peregrine and a Redstart.

Lapland Bunting (no apologies for anothe Lap photo - they're smart birds, and while I've got these numbers on my patch I'm gonna enjoy them while I can).

Wood Sand.

After Thursday's easterlies and yesterday's northerlies, the weather was finally calm enough to actually see what had turned up - not a lot as it happens. A few half decent bits 'n' pieces around Scatness - 3 Common Crossbills feeding on the thistles, a Wood Sandpiper on the small pool, one each of Black-tailed and Bar-tailed Godwit in with the Redshanks, Redstart in the garden and Peregrine and Merlin both present.

Just what you'd expect to see among Meadow Pipits !!

Peregrine.

Peregrine down from the garden this morning, eventually being chased off by Arctic Terns. Seems like July is the month for turning up odd birds around the house - Waxwings last year and Little Gull and Cuckoo in the past.
A very worn Yellow Shell in the trap last night was a new Moth for the garden.
