Shove

At long last, finally managed to get Shoveler on the patch yearlist (2 on the Loch), not only that but a fly over Grey Wagtail as a bonus, I'm not sure quite why a Grey Wag would be passing through this late as all my previous records at Scatness have been in either April or October. Elsewhere on the patch - 2 Swallow (around Loch), Reed Warbler (still in the garden) and male Scaup and male Velvet Scoter (West Voe).

Still

At last a calm day, the first one in about 2 months, and the first chance of the year to thrash the patch properly. 3 year-ticks today - Grey Heron, Peregrine and Grey Plover, other stuff on the patch included - 3 Shoveler, 3 Pintail, Pochard, 2 Snow Buntings and a Robin.

Nice weather for ducks.

Lashing with rain all day, still 2 Shoveler on the Loch were overdue year-tick, as was a Bar-tailed Godwit. Other than that the Siskin remains in the garden, the Brent Goose and the Canada are still knocking about and the 2 Gadwall are still on the Loch. Despite the weather this month, it seems not to have effected the moth trap very much, in fact, the 325 Hebrew Characters that were caught is the highest number that I've ever had ! (253 in 2009 and 154 in 2008).
