A load of Waders on Moast Beach, nothing unusual, the best being a Common Sandpiper.

Caspos

Had a walk along the banks of the river Wisla up to Katy and back - 2 Golden Orioles, a Green Woodpecker, 4 Great Reed Warblers, a Common Rosefinch, 20 Caspian Gulls, 3 Common Sandpipers, 5 Black Redstarts and a Buzzard - stinkin' hot all day until a massive thunder storm early evening cooled things down a bit.

A Trickle

Despite the northerly winds, a few migrants have made it to the patch this week, 2 Willow Warblers were in the garden for a couple of days, a few Whimbrel have been heading south and a Common Sandpiper was on Moast Beach today.
On the moth front numbers have dropped dramatically with the northerlies, 300+ plus before and just 2 last night, although I did trap a Holly Tortrix (cheers Andy, for the I.D.) on the 7th.

Smaller and Smaller.

Seems like there's been a bit of a clear out on the patch with smaller numbers of almost everything - Lapland Buntings down to 7, only about 40 Skylarks about and only about 200 Meadow Pipits. The Redstart remains in the garden and a Common Sandpiper was in West Voe. 24 Pink-footed Geese went over the patch just before dinnertime - winter is on it's way ! It's pretty much 'windless' up here at the moment (at last !), so looks like a good night for the moth trap.

Waggy.

Yellow Wagtail added to the patch year list with a bird on one of the beaches in front of the house, elsewhere around the patch - 3 Blackcaps, 2 Willow Warblers, 2 Pied Flycatchers, 4 Redstarts, 1 Spotted Flycatcher, 1 Whitethroat, 1 Garden Warbler, 1 Whinchat and a Song Thrush. Wader wise, there was 6 Knot, 5 Ruff, a Bar-tailed Godwit and a Common Sandpiper. Still a bit hard going with a strong south easterly still blowing and lashing down with rain for most of the day.

Third Time Lucky.

Three visits to Scatness today, as it's still blowing a south-easterly.
Visit One - Nothing !
Visit Two - Still nothing, but Chiffchaff, Willow Warbler and 2 Redstarts in the Garden.
Visit Three - At last - 3 Tree Pipits, 3 Swallows, 3 Whooper Swans, 2 Goosander (which kindly flew past the Garden at dusk, taking the House list up to 166), 1 Common Sandpiper, 1 Lesser Whitethroat and a male Bluethroat !
Have just been informed, by the Missus, that there was a Turtle Dove in the Garden at 6am this morning !
