Wader year ticks

Being as waders seem to be pouring through all over, went around the patch looking for Ruff, managed to find 2 on the rocks near Moast Beach and also 5 Greenshank. Other waders of note were 11 Sanderling and 7 Knot.

Bein' Green.

Still not a lot happening (surprise, surprise !), a Greenshank on the patch was a year tick (heard one three times in the spring, but couldn't get on to it), a Snout in the moth trap this morning was not only dead, but missing most of it's 'snout' and most of the wing markings !

Scatness.

After last night's easterly wind and rain, I was hoping for a garden full of Warblers this morning - not a chance ! However, whilst emptying the moth trap (mainly of wet egg cartons), a Green Sandpiper flew over the house bringing the garden year-list up to 112. Down at the end of Scatness , a Ruff and a Greenshank were on the Loch & 10 Knot and 14 Dunlin were on the bathing pool.

Double Dip !

After having only brief flight views of the Laughing Gull yesterday, went back to Boddam at 8 am - no sign, only things of note were 4 Linnets and a Rat ! Tried again around lunchtime - still no sign.
Early evening went to Scousburgh for an Eastern Sub-alp that had just been trapped and ringed - no sign. Tried again for the Laugher - never going to Boddam again !!!
Greenshank on the Pool of Virkie was best bird of the day. Still some migrants in the Garden - 2 Willow Warbler, a Spotted Flycatcher, a Garden Warbler and a Whitethroat.
