Turds

A nice south-easterly wind with a bit of rain, and the only improvement on the patch was 4 Fieldfare and 6 Redwing !!! Redwing.

The end of March

Not a lot of change on the patch, apart from the weather calming down a bit. Skylarks are now back and singing, there are up to 15 Great Northern Divers in the bay in front of the house and 5 Shelducks are battling it out for control of the Loch. Not another fine sunset ?! Great Northern Diver. Skylark.

Shelducks.

Bucket List

An article is now online of the '50 birds to see in India before die' (see the first 25 here), as I have only seen one of them in India - here it is - these Sociable Plovers were in the Greater Rann of Kutch last year, in total there were 21 in the flock. Maybe the article should be titled '50 birds to see in India before they die', as two from this first part are almost certainly extinct !

Some Crap

Some crap from the last few weeks -

A Chaffinch in the garden, so far the rarest bird on the patch this month (yes, it really is that bad !!!)

Whooper Swans.

Male Goldeneye.

Long-tailed Ducks.

The tropical looking West Voe.

And yet another storm on its way.

Bahrain and all that

Although last weekend's grand prix was officially cancelled in Bahrain, it seem that most of the teams held an unofficial version using local vehicles !

Sometime in the late 80's ('87 I think), a certain Mr Evans appeared in The Sun newspaper in a story about obsessive birding (no surprise there then!). The photos taken of him then have now resurfaced and it looks like they are being used in the new British Gas advert, with the man himself in the starring role of a van driver !!! - from 'page three Lee' to 'the gasman cometh'. It must be more than coincidence that British Gas have chosen to use the song 'One Vision' as well !

long wait

onyhoo, there will be an update soon, involving the past week, the Bahrain grand prix and a certain LGRE (aka the Little Chalfont village idiot), aah crap, I've just up-dated !!!! BLX ! Ah well, I maybe sober tomorrow (maybe, well this is Shetland !!!)

Green Flash

No, not some new superhero, or an Irish exhibitionist, but a phenomenon of the sunset over the sea. Conditions have to be quite specific, with good clear conditions and no clouds on the horizon, then with a bit of luck, as the sunsets behind the horizon, sometimes it will shine on through the top of the sea causing a 'green flash'. It can just about be seen in the last 2 photos.

Going....

....going....

....nearly gone....

.....and 'flash'.
